Operation Comfort Update

I promised updates on what I have named 'Operation Comfort.'

Operation Comfort is my attempt of collecting blankets for the Blessed Sacrament's Social Services. Every day, Social Services at Blessed Sacrament helps feed, clothe, and provide showers for 50 to 100 of the less fortunate and homeless in Hollywood.

It is an independent tax-exempt charitable organization. They offer a food bank, weekly haircuts, and other various types of assistance. This is made possible by one full-time and a few part-time employees, volunteers, and a loving parish.

Yet, there is still a shortage of blankets, one of the most requested items by those who frequent Social Services. In the upcoming winter months, evening temperatures in Hollywood range from 30-40 degrees. As we know the warmth and comfort of something as simple as a blanket could mean life or death for someone living on the streets.

I am sad to report, that my efforts haven't paid off. The following retailers: Target, Kohls, JCPenney, and Kmart, have all declined my request for help. I am not surprised, just saddened. May God help them.

So, I guess it's time for a different strategy. I am thinking about forming a blanket drive at the parish or collecting donations to purchase blankets. If you have any tips or connections I would greatly appreciate it.

If all else fails...well, let's hope it doesn't. I would also appreciate your prayers!

Love & Blessings,

Monique
